One of the steps to preparedness as defined by the city is to “Get Connected.” During the after school hours on June 1, the school and surrounding community gathered to see the works created by the grade 5 and 6 students. Inside the Gym were multiple displays of the student creations including the local animal based puppets. A hazard guessing game station was set up where participants were challenged to guess the top 11 risks as defined by the City of Richmond. Additionally, neighbourhood maps were posted on the walls where community members were encouraged to connected with each other. Representatives of the City of Richmond Emergency Programs were also on hand to display emergency preparedness kits and provide information for families. The Red Fox Healthy Living Society Active Play crew were also on hand to provide instruction and support on playground games to keep the community active. Earlier in the week the students and teachers baked hundreds of cookies for all to enjoy on the day.
