A Birds eye view, wooden bird craft project.

Our classes begun the creation of a wooden bird craft based on species identified at the Richmond Nature Park. By studying of colour of various birds we hoped to refine their visual senses by identifying the unique colours and incorporating them into their birds.

Back in the classroom at Ferris Elementary and through the use of sanding and wood burners was another tactile experience to this individual craft project. To add to this multi-sensory craft activity was the identification of unique birds sounds as identified at the Richmond Nature House and with the Merlin Bird App. As a birder one often hears a sounds first before visually confirming its identity. In the context of situational awareness a keen sense of sound and discernment of colours are important skills to develop.
